15th Jubilee Thanksgiving Charity Drive
  
The 15th Jubilee Charity Drive was very successful due to
the generous help of many companies and individuals. In 2004,
the AmCham Foundation supported the following three charity
organizations: Szent Márton Gyermekmentôszolgálat Közhasznú
Alapítvány, Nyíregyházi Down Egyesület and the Kerek Világ
Jóléti Szolgálat Alapítvány, with a total cash donation of
HUF 5 million and in-kind donations in the value of HUF 10
million. Donations were presented to the organizations in
November and December 2004. The AmCham Foundation would like
to thank Interdean for the substantial help they have provided
in logistics since 1996 and EDS Hungary and its employees
who worked in the Fót Childrentown Oct. 16 as part of the
“Corporate Volunteer Drive.”

AmCham 15th Anniversary Gala Reception
The American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham) celebrated
the 15th Anniversary of its foundation in 2004. The 15th
Anniversary Gala Reception was held in the magnificent Parliament
building Dec. 10th.
 
AmCham Hungary was the first AmCham in Eastern Europe in
November 1989. Today, with almost 600 members, AmCham is
one of the most influential non-profit, non-political organizations
in Hungary. As the leading voice of foreign businesses, lobbying
and interest-representation became the key role and main
focus of AmCham. Member companies invested approximately
60% of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Hungary, and created
over 200,000 jobs.
 
As a highlight of the 15th Anniversary Gala Reception, the
President of the Republic of Hungary, Dr. Ferenc Mádl, personally
congratulated AmCham Hungary for its contribution to Hungary’s
development. “American investors found their way to Hungary
fairly fast, and I am sure that AmCham had in the past and
will have in the future a continuingly significant role in
the successful investment projects,” he said. AmCham President
Les Nemethy expressed his sincere thanks to past presidents,
board members, active members and especially to Péter Fáth,
CEO of AmCham, for efforts in shaping the organization and
for the roles they played in AmCham’s successful history.
   
On his first official visit to Europe, John W. Bachmann,
the new Chairman of the Board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
in Washington D.C., pointed out that AmCham Hungary is a
rolemodel in the region, and the U.S. Chamber is proud of
the excellent cooperation with our organization. US Ambassador
George Herbert Walker also expressed his appreciation to
AmCham for its achievements and thanked for the joint efforts
of the two organizations. Péter Fáth, who has served the
organization for over 14 years, talked about the initial
objectives and plans of the founders and board members. “The
basic principle of AmCham has never changed. Our driving
force has been and will always be the values we all share:
democracy, transparency and good corporate citizenship.”
The over 350 participants were invited to a reception in
Hunter’s Hall, where Peter A. Hegedus greeted the participants.
 
A special photo CD with over 500 photos was published for
the 15th Anniversary Gala Reception. By going through this
CD, you can follow the history of not only AmCham but Hungary,
too.
